These Stainless Steel 316L Forged Socket Weld Reducer is Chromium - Nickel stainless steel with added molybdenum to increase corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Our 316L Stainless Steel Forged Fitting has much higher resistance to chlorides at elevated temperatures, with good formability. These 316L SS Forged Threaded Fittings has excellent corrosion resistance at normal temperatures in ordinary atmospheric conditions withstanding some natural acids.

SS 316 vs SS 316L Forged Fittings

Selecting the correct alloy impacts your total project lifecycle. Standard 316 contains up to 0.08% carbon, while 316L caps this element at 0.03%. This slight reduction fundamentally changes weldability. Heavy welding on standard grades causes carbide precipitation, forcing crews into expensive post-weld heat treatments to restore corrosion resistance. The lower carbon in 316L eliminates this requirement entirely.

Both grades deliver identical pitting resistance against chlorides because they share the same 2.0–3.0% molybdenum content. We recommend standard 316 for high-temperature structural components where maximum tensile strength matters.
